Pork Siomai Recipe

Siomai with pork is a traditional Chinese dumpling. The hundreds of stalls, eateries, and restaurants that serve this popular dumpling attest to its popularity among Filipinos. Siomai are traditionally steamed but are now also fried and served with soy sauce and calamansi.

The best siomai in Manila can be found in Manila Chinatown, which is the world's oldest Chinatown. Several Chinese restaurants and even stalls serve a variety of siomai. While I prefer steamed shumai, I also enjoy deep-fried shumai.

This Siomai recipe is of the Cantonese variety. It primarily consists of ground pork and shrimp. Msuhroom can also be added at your discretion. This recipe appeals to me because it is simple to prepare and the end result is delicious. It goes well with a dipping sauce made of soy sauce and calamansi. It's even better with a small amount of chili garlic paste on top.

Siomai Cooking Instructions

It's simple to make your own siomai at home. Ensure that you have all of the ingredients listed in the recipe below. A steamer is also required.

Begin by combining all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl, except for the water and wonton wrappers. To improve the flavor of my siomai, I'm using Knorr Pork SavorRich. It significantly improves the flavor.

Once all of the ingredients have been thoroughly combined, wrap a tablespoon or more of the mixture in wonton wrappers. I recommend watching the video below for more information. Place the wrapped items on a steamer. Allow a little space between each piece to prevent the wonton wrappers from sticking together. You could also drape cheesecloth over the steamer before covering it. This prevents water from falling directly onto the siomai while steaming.

15 to 20 minutes of steaming Serve as an appetizer, main course, or snack.
